Gobble Gobble - Nikki (I Am Not The Dream)
I got re-interested in Gobble Gobble after finding and consequently obsessing over Purity Ring (with one member from Gobble Gobble and a lovely vocalist). This song seems to be part of a trend of what I’ll pretentiously call ‘reappropriating hip hop,’ the fruition of a generation of kids to whom the genre was part of a broad soundscape. Wrapping semi-formulaic phrasing in lush and oozing digital sound creates something entirely new: an utterly danceable romp with the winking inside joke of an entire generation of youth nodding along to a shimmering litany to shorty.
